MYASTHENIA GRAVIS -

A MISLED DIAGNOSIS AND ITS FOLLOW UP!

A HORRIFIC CASE - STUMBLED DOCTORS GROPING IN THE DARK!

Doctors of some major hospitals, as Shri Chaitanya hospital, K.V.M. Hospital,
P. D. Hinduja National Hospital of Bombay and Christian Medical College & Hospital Vellore where misled in their diagnosis by an "illusory personality" of an "evil spirit". Unwanted operations and medications followed!

Mrs Siby Varghese 33, was in Bombay with her husband, who is an engineer in a leading factory there. Her marriage was in 1992 soon after her post graduation. She also secured a good post in the same factory. But in 1993 she fell ill, a peculiar kind of sickness. Her muscles go weak very often, especially after noon. She felt some delay in nerve contraction, at the points where the nerves join the muscles. Muscles involved mainly are those of the neck, throat, lips, face, cheek and eyelids. Difficulty in chewing, swallowing and talking. Face loses its expression to the sentiments. She became very tired and weak, for, she could not take food but often with great difficulty. On certain days she felt all right till noon. She was treated in various leading hospitals in Bombay during last eight years, Chaithanya Hospital, KVM Hospital, Hinduja Hospital, CMC Vellore, to name a few. Investigations yielded no results and medication no relief, but temporary. In 1999 doctors of Hinduja Hospital after a combined thorough check up diagnosed as Myastenia Gravis, a rare sickness, cause of which is unknown and hence no curative medication. But as of now, they proposed replacement of blood plasma and removal of thymus gland and a lifelong medication to have a rather normal "serious troubles-free" life. They made arrangements for the difficult process, but found the rare used machine malfunctioning. Rectification may need weeks, if not months. So in consultation with the Vellore CMC Hospital, with all the documents of previous investigations and medications, the patient was directed to Vellore for better management in August 1999.

The doctors there, were not ready to take the diagnosed results at the face value. Admitted the patient for a period and started investigations and medications. Also she was put under the psychiatrists and psychologists, who gave a clean chit excluding anything of mental. At the end, the doctors there also concluded the sickness as Myastenia Gravis and started the above-mentioned process, replaced the plasma and removed the thymus gland, and started medication that is to last life long. She felt some kind of relief. Discharged in September 2000 with medicines for 3 months instructing to report in person after 3 months for follow up. They went back to Bombay with a relieved mind. But within 3 weeks she had relapse with the very same symptoms but with more severity and intensity!

Soon she was taken back to Vellore. Doctors there saw her, examined her and were groping in the dark as to what to say and do! They soon discussed the matter with their American counterpart in detail and sought help. Finally the Americans informed, not to send the patient to America since nothing more to be done there, than what is already done in Vellore. The doctors asked the patient and relations to go back home praying God and continue medicines.

An expense of Rs.6 lakhs during the last 8 years! The pains and troubles of the time extra and that of the future unthinkable! Since both were from Kerala, they returned home hopeless though, to try Ayurveda only for mental peace and satisfaction. They were planning to take her to Kottackal Arya Vaidya Sala.

Meanwhile a certain relation of that family asked them to take her to Palai to this Centre for a one time check up and comment. Varghese was very willing to do so. She was taken over here on the next day. He narrated the whole ordeals and travails of the past 8 years and presented a bundle of documents. Actually I got frightened. She looked normal but tired and feeble. Actually I was perspiring thinking it is not at all a case of mine since the doctors of Hinduja and CMC Vellore diagnosed it as Myastenia Gravis, nay more the psychiatrists and psychologists excluded anything that is mental. I thought of sending them back straight away. But prudence and providence guided me to take her to the therapy room, only to send them back after 10 minutes or so. Still just for a trial, I put her in psycho-religious trance. To my dismay, lo, there emerged an "illussory personality of an evil spirit" horripilating in nature, suspense creating in narration! Started narrating a story of events, that caused this sickness and troubles, for half an hour. As per the narration, the Illussory Personality  wanted to make her sick and kill her if possible within few years. Also wanted  to make her husband bankrupt and make him a beggar. This is to take wengeance for his change of mind from an earlier decision of marrying another girl. Also narrated many other things.....Her parents and relations who were witnessing, attested as whatever heard is right!

Completed the process. She got up fully cured from the "MYASTHENIA GRAVIS". She was in a suspence for a time. She said in public that something is taken off from her head and mind. "I am fully cured from my sickness, l feel very healthy in mind and body". She cried out. She was given some Ayurvedic medicines and sent them asking to report by the end of the third month. They went back and live happily to this day, well with their jobs. Last month they came back from Bombay for the follow up. There was no problem. Complete cure reported.

The cure was easy since not spoiled by the psychiatrists, with high-graded modern chemical drugs. Though was a psychiatric case, luckily they could not diagnose it as such. So she was not spoiled by drugs.

There is one more brand new case, diagnosed by another Medical College Hospitas as G.B.S grade 4 sickness. I shall not go in detail now. Almost all the "cases" come under the medical nominee clutter as symptomatic, idiopathic, pseudo seizure etc. and a few of "syndromes" are of psychiatric causes, but to be treated by psycho religious therapy. At least 65% of the so called epileptic cases are not true epileptic causes. Any upset, physical or mental, noted soon after a fright, are not to be treated under the present day medical know how. They are actually psychiatric cases, but the present day psychiatrists cannot diagnose it as such and even if diagnosed can do nothing more than giving high graded drugs to the physical, mental and financial peril of the patients. Cases are thousands !. All the documents are preserved here, including that of the above mentioned  myasthenia gravis, for the perusal of the research minded.
